Abstract
Background: Respirator y and gastrointestinal symptoms are the common clinical manifestations associated with viral influenza infection. Some neurologic and cardiac complications of influenza are also well recognized.

Case Report: A 75-year-old man visited the emergency room complaining of sudden mental change with fever, and was diagnosed with influenza B encephalitis. On the 3rd day, he developed supraventricular tachycardia and expired.

Conclusions: The mental change and arrhythmia should be regarded as alarming signs in influenza viral infections, since the neurologic and cardiac involvement of the virus leads to fatality.
